Issue 47
May 2024
Welcome to the spring edition of Acceleration News!
In this issue, we are happy to put the spotlights on the I.FAST project, which held its annual meeting at the month of April. In cooperation with two other Horizon 2020 projects, it gathered the academic world and the industry, both large and small, to discuss the challenges of cryogenics in Big Science. In an interview, Luca Garolfi presents the status of the project’s internal innovation fund, designed to stimulate innovation for accelerator sustainability.
The issue is also the opportunty to report on the progress made by the High-Luminosity upgrade of the LHC as well as by the FCC study. The CLIC study is also giving us an idea of all the development that has been ongoing in the realm of non-invasive beam diagnostics over the last ten years.
We are also happy to announce:
- 23 May 2024: "Neutron Scattering: Exploring Cell Membrane Mechanisms" by Prof. Giovanna Fragneto
- 27 November 2024: 30th Birthday of the Joint Universities Accelerator School.
On a personal note, after three years as editor-in-chief of Accelerating News, it's time for me to leave CERN and move on to new adventures. I am proud to have welcomed new contributors from across the accelerator community in new projects and initiatives. Of course, this extraordinary time would not have been possible without the continued support of the Accelerating News editorial team and editorial board. Thank you all so much!
A new editor-in-chief will be announced in the September issue.
The editors and myself hope you enjoy the new issue and wish you a happy reading!
Antoine Le Gall, Editor-in-Chief
